that connected you & I
into an us.
I thought it was just a pause,
comma, but
now it's over
Period.
No hope for an ellipses....
(Parenthetically, you whispered goodbye
as an aside - dash it all!)
and I am left with
crooked question marks
hunched over in thought
and asking, "what the -?"
But don't quote me on that.
