struggling upward
swimming through sludge
towards wakefulness
enveloped in the
lethargic blanket
of rain pattering
against the windows
and the distant rumble
of the city rising
before curling back
into the curve
of a shoulder's crook
and surrendering again
to Sunday morning sighs
