bipartisan

our house divided
we could not stand
and so it is
we fell
so caught
in rhetoric
got lost
in being right
until common ground
merely small talk
as we sat across the table
over plates of dinner
cooling
our bipartisan effort
a resigned shrug
as we both reached
for the wine
