the room is filled with the exhausted
the harried and resigned
awaiting with their numbers
and hoping they're declined
my day of jury duty
left me sad for all the rest
when the lawyers
did their voire dire
and then sifted through the mess
in the course of jurisprudence
on a day that never ends
they share their deepest secrets
and hope the judge
them homeward sends
and I sat my fate awaiting
until I was homeward set
for having once been robbed
justice for me never met
and so I've never sat a jury
though fair I hope I'd be
I guess in seven years
we'll have another chance to see
